Leighton's Robot Birthday Party

Happy Birthday Leighton!!

I haven't said it yet but its so hard to believe that he is 2! It seems like only yesterday he was in my belly and we were wondering what special gift was in there and who he would turn out to be and even look like. Now here we are two yrs later, he still amazes and surprises and makes us laugh everyday. He is very kind and smart and loves to be silly. His smile and personality light up a room. He has a personality that is very easy going and happy all the time. We really are lucky parents to be given such a super child.

For months I said I wasn't going to do a birthday party for Leighton, I would be at the end of the pregnancy and too exhausted to decorate and carry it out. Also we don't know alot of kids in our Neighborhood so we just thought we would keep it a family day and do something special. Well who was I kidding I love to plan and throw parties its one of my favorite ways to be creative. So at the last minute I decided to do a small party with a robot theme, robots b/c their cute and it would be easy. It was very low key and turned out super cute and with hardly any effort!

Than and I decided to make alot of big gauge style wall hangings and use thermal blankets to cover everything! We also used Leighton's robot sheets as a birthday chair cover and a table cloth. I built a big robot friend to hang out in our corner and head boppers were a must for everyone to wear.

My robot cake!! This was the best and cutest cake I have ever made, I couldn't have been more proud about how the finished product looked!! Baking has been tricky in our new house since our first floor is always so cold and our oven is gas. It seems that baking on really cold days takes forever to get something to cook evenly and throughout. Everyone loved my cake, and honestly I don't think a bakery could have done a better job. It hurt me to cut up this cutie when it was time to serve the cake, but thats the point right?? Anyway since I had recently be diagnosed with gestational diabetes I managed to make a reduced sugar cake and frosting that was really YUMMY and better for you.

Leighton and my giant robot guy I made late the night before. I thought he came out pretty well!!

There's that tongue...apparently Leighton has the tongue out concentration gene, so dominate on my side, I do it, and so does my dad! Its really funny to see him do it though and I am sure he looks much cuter than I do when I do it.

The party was a small intimate gathering of most of our maryland family and most important to Leighotn his cousins were able to make it. We are so grateful to them for making the "LONG" drive down to see us just for a few hours fun, it really meant alot to us! Its so nice to get all the family together I just wished we didn't live so far so we could do it more. Than and I love spending time with everyone and hosting gatherings, the hardest part for us is just getting everyone here.
