We will miss our friends Lyn, Chris, and Sophie

Some good friends of ours are being transferred up to oklahoma for a promotion and before we could even throw Lyn a baby shower for her new little muffin due on Christmas. Leighton will miss his little friend sophie here they are visting on August the 8th. Sophie isn't too keen on the idea of another baby sharing mommy's lap at first.
Then she warmed up to the idea and decided to give leighton a kiss, How sweet!!!
Sophie kept petting Leighton on his head and back like you would pet a dog it was really funny. She was practicing for her baby sister who will be here in December, she wanted to hold Leighton all by herself. He was the best baby doll she has ever seen!
Leighton seemed to have a great time playing with Lyn and Sophie, too bad they will be leaving soon.

My First Restaurant Highchair August 5, 2007

At 5 mths our little man is finally in a highchair in a restaurant. This means no longer lugging the carseat bucket out of the car, which is good b/c the thing weighs a ton! Also he is able to keep himself entertained without being held and we can eat our breakfast and have our coffee. The breaking development happened at our favorite breakfast place, La Alamedia. Leighton now really seems to enjoy his new found highchair freedom and so do mommy and daddy.
Look at these two aren't they adorable. Like father like son, just look at the eyes and hairline.
Yummy fingers and lion, man I wish I could have a cup of coffee.
The pope hands cry.... This means he has had enough and wants out, well it was nice while it lasted ;)
How cute! and What pretty blue eyes! If he only knew we were headed to the aquarium after breakfast!

Escape artist August 1, 2007

Since Leighton wasn't able to sit up on his own yet his swing, bouncy seat, and bumbo chair were the only options for our arms to get a break sometimes. He hates to lie on his back so putting him down just never worked Well he doesn't really like the bumbo seat all that much and goes #2 everytime we put him in it and it always smashes out somehow, wierd huh? and He can't be in his swing all the time, so this only left his bouncy seat. At the beginning of August we noticed Leighton decided he didn't want to sit in his bouncy seat anymore. He showed us this by climbing out. Here it is step by step: The scoot down.
The swing your feet up and down and let the spring in the seat help bounce you forward.
Use arms to push you once swing motion is no longer effective at the edge of the seat.
One foot on the floor almost there! Keep scooting!
Finally flop out on the floor, man I forgot I can't sit up, scream for a parent to rescue you before the smelly dog comes over to lick you!!!

That last picture was taken on a separate day than the others in the sequence catching the final outcome w/o letting him get hurt was a little hard. But it was very funny and had to be caught on film!!! Now the bouncy seat is put away since he would get out by the time i made it into the kitchen from the living room.

Leighton is eating solid foods!!!

In Leighton news we started solids in mid August. He was becoming harder and to keep full on only breast milk , so we finally bit the bullet and started baby rice cereal in mid July and then jar baby foods in mid August. This was his first experience with solid food. We chose Peas to start. Huh thats differen't.....still doesn't know what to think about it.
Here's a little more.........
We Love it!! How cute is that messy pea face?? Since his first meal he has had just about everything. After peas we had pears, then on to sweet potatoes and bannas. So far his favorite fruit is bannas or anything banna blend and his favorite vegtable is peas or carrots. The thing he likes the least is greenbeans. I have been warned by other moms to stay aways from some foods since them make a horrible smelling diaper, guava being one of them. So far my least favorite diaper is squash!!!!EWWW!! But he likes it so what can ya do??

Blackhawk Babes Powderpuff Game July 21, 2007

At a spouse club meeting a few months ago we were discussing fundraising ideas and I suggested a Powderpuff football game. Incase you don't know powederpuff is just a girls flag/touch football game usually in college or highschool during homecoming week. People seemed interested in doing it just for fun and not fundraising since it was my idea it was my job to organize it. We had two teams Team Pink the "COWgirls" "C-O-W " is an acronym for commanding officer's wife, so in the spouse club she is our "Cow". Since she was on our team we were the "COWgirls" and I had to have the color Pink :) The other team was the Blue team "Laurels" after the flower. This was the first event I have organized by myself for the club and sad to say it was quite a headache trying to coordinate everything! By game day it was all worth it, The t-shirts I designed and had printed couldn't have turned out any cuter! We ended up playing two-hand touch football on a field down the street from our house. It had been super unbearable hot earlier in the day but by game-time it had cooled down alot and there was a nice breeze (perfect weather considering it was july). They modified the field some to make it a little smaller, and we played 30 minutes halves. It was like a real game!!! I had never played football before and didn't know the rules. My favorite part about sports is a cold beer and the annoucer's voice, but i was ready! Than's only words were please try not to hurt yourself, knowing how excited i was. With the husbands rooting for the wives on the sidelines, we started the game. We had coaches and a referee, both someone's husband, but still our coach was a Naval academy football player and also the CO of the squadron! It was great, people were running and blocking and crashing into each other. I was really worried I would only last 5 minutes of running since I had had a baby 4 months prior ;) and haven't exercised in over a year. When I got there I was even more worried since a teammate had gotten sick and we were a man down. Well to my surprise I did really well, scored a touchdown, ran the whole game and even got asked if I used to run track, b/c i was fast!!! I was beaming!
Leighton was less than impressed with mommy's football skills.
The "COWgirls" and the "Laurels" silly picture after the game!
My Proud husband, relieved I didn't make the injured list!!! LOL!

Taa-Daa! Victory for the "COWgirls" A Celebration toast! I was so happy we won, and how much fun everyone had. After the game it was confessed that people had reservations as to playing and thought it might be stupid :( but instead everyone was so impressed with the abilities of both teams and the amount of fun, there is now talk of making this an annual thing!!! Hey I am not saying all my ideas are good, but most of them are!!! LOL! My favorite part of the game was that it was the navy husbands supporting the navy wives, for a change. Being married to the navy is not an easy thing, and not for everbody, so a chance to turn the tables for a day, was the best feeling and this was the most fun we have had in a long time! I also know that all the husbands and kids were so proud of us ladies, on that day we were the Heros!! Not to be to cheesy. After the game we all went to a local pizza place to celebrate or nurse our wounds once we were there the CO and EO (the two head guys of the squadron) were like how did you come up with this? It was awesome , you should have sold tickets!!! HUM....seems like someone suggested that in the beginning!! all and all what a fun summer day!

More Harry Potter!

Me and my book voucher I stood in line with my Navy friend Heather that morning to get our vouchers so we wouldn't be the last to get our books at like 2am or later!
Heather and I in line again this time for real!!! Yay! D group finally get to purchase our books! Heather was dressed as a griffindor student.

We got our books, and were outta there by 12:30am books went on sale at midnight, it was pretty quick and we were all so glad since we were so tired! The one thing was that we didn't get an after picture with my book :( We picked Than's up the next day, since the base didn't have a midnight party :( But I shared mine with him that night ;)

Harry Potter book 7 party Barnes Noble July 20,2007

We were so excited to be there, we really enjoy the Harry potter series, and love to dress up so what could be a better occasion??? I had preordered my book from Barnes and Noble and Than ordered his on base! Anyway the books were released at midnight, but until then it was a fun hang out party. There were tons of give-aways/freebies like harry potter glasses and fake tattoos. It was a fun night. Than pinned a hogwarts griffindor patch on his sweater, and I was the character Nymphadora Tonks. Leighton whose costume was the best was Hedwig Harry Potter's white owl.
This was when we first got there and started to wonder if the feather's where such a good idea. I made his costume that afternoon and was very proud of it, but once we got there, we had to keep him from trying to eat it, silly first time parents! Anyway it was so worth it!
Tonks and Hedwig also known as mommy and Leighton.
This picture is amazing!!!! Sometimes are camera takes these journalist type quality photos outta nowhere?? It was purely Luck, but is one of my favorite photos of him so far! The blog really doesn't do it justice! Also it was so crazy barnes and noble full of people in costumes, and Close to 50 people posed to take pictures with Leighton throughout the nigh. Seriously, not exagerating, like 4-5 people would line up at a time! Ranging in age from small kids to grandparents, they all would say "I hope this isn't weird but can I have a picture with your baby, Hedwig??" We would just laugh and say sure, then the few other people hovering nearby that were to shy to ask would get in line behind them. He was a huge hit and definetly would have been a contender for the costume contest but we took a break for dinner, so we missed out :(
Than and Leighton at about 1 hour until book sales start! Leighton was being such a trooper!

80's Hail and Farewell June 23, 2007

Well we often have squadron parties to celebrate different things. One party we have alot is a "Hail and Farewell" it is to welcome the new people and say goodbye to the people leaving for a different station. This party had an 80's theme! And no I didn't post these twice, we had two eighties parties within a month this summer good thing b/c our costumes were so fun, thanks to goodwill and my costume supply!
This party we got to bring Leighton along, so he needed a costume also we decided to dress him as a baby jogger like daddy! The funniest part is that he had the shirt, shorts, and shoes already, all he needed was to borrow an old headband from me! Cutest little Jogger I have ever seen. Family of 80's athletes, Than and Leighton joggers and I was a rollerskating aerobic instructor! The best part was Than's goodwill shirt that said "Life is to short to be taken seriously" it was such a great find, how perfect!
I realized how much i love to rollerskate, I used to love it so much as a kid and would go to the skating rink every friday night! What a great date idea, LOL!
This picture is Leighton just hanging out in our bed already in his Pj's while we are getting ready to go bed, he was watching the tv. I wanted to share it b/c i think it is so funny the way he is just sitting like it is his bed, only his. Also look how tall he is! His height still amazes me and those long legs!
You may have noticed by now that he has (I have) an obsession with pajamas(or as we call them "Jamas" I love "Jamas" so much and have a drawer full of them, holiday ones, nightgowns, shorts pants, three piece sets. It is a huge part of our house for Than and I to lounge in "Jamas" , especially during the fall/winter. So it is only natural for Leighton to have a large collection of them also.
